COVID-19

Neergaard Pharmacy recommends COVID-19 testing to be performed in accordance with guidelines from New York State, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), and the manufacturers of the testing kits. We strongly recommend that you schedule testing based on the timing of the development of symptoms associated with COVID-19. According to the CDC, and based on preliminary data, the median incubation period and time to symptom onset is approximately 5 days from exposure, but may range anywhere from 2-14 days.

Who Qualifies?

Anyone age 4 years or older can get tested. Minors must be accompanied by an adult, parent or legal gaurdian.

How It Works?

1. Go to www.Neergaardpharmacies.com.

2. Select an available date and time in our scheduling program Home Page.

3. Fill out the registration form.

4. Proof of identity is required upon arrival to Neergaard Pharmacy for your test.

5. Be sure to provide an active mobile phone number in order for us to call you with your test results.

6. Upon arrival, do not enter through the Main Pharmacy entrance. Please follow the posted signs and proceed to the COVID-19 testing area located at 10th Street in the rear of building.

7. Average turnaround time for the COVID-19 PCR test is 2-3 days.

What Type of Tests are performed?

We currently perform both the Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) and the Rapid Antigen COVID-19 tests. A sample is collected via a nasal swab by a Pharmacist. The Rapid Antigen test results are available in 15 minutes from the time of testing. The PCR test sample is analyzed by an outside, independent laboratory and results are available in 48 to 72 hours.

If you are getting your test for a specific purpose such as travel, please ensure you are selecting the proper test required by your airline, destination or other requiring organization. Certain travel destinations and airlines do not accept rapid result testing.

We do not administer antibody tests, which indicate whether the patient has been infected in the past.

PCR (POLYMERASE CHAIN REACTION) COVID-19 TEST

This is a test to detect an active COVID-19 infection. A sample nasal swab is collected at Neergaard Pharmacy by a licensed pharmacist and sent to an outside, independent laboratory for analysis. Patients can expect results in 2 to 3 days.  The virus is detectable within 5-10 days of illness/symptom onset.

Precautions To Take After You Receive Your Test Results

COVID-19 PCR Test

Negative - Continue to exercise universal precautions such as social distancing, quarantining, frequent hand washing, wearing of a mask or face cloth in public, and other CDC guideline recommendations.

Positive - You have tested positive for Sars-CoV-2, the virus causing COVID-19. You are likely actively contagious and should home quarantine (sleep alone in bed, if possible use your own bathroom, wipe down surfaces, and wear a mask when in the same room as others). Please note, a small percentage of patients with active infection may be completely asymptomatic. It is recommended based on the CDC's most up to date return to work recommendation of the rule of 10/3. If you do not have symptoms at the time of your PCR nasal swab, you may return to work in 10 days (provided you do not have a fever 3 days prior to your return to work). If you are symptomatic and test positive, you are still likely contagious to others.

A positive PCR test does not yield any information about potential immunity. Please be re-evaluated immediately for worsening symptoms such as shortness of breath or lightheadedness.

You are recommended to self-quarantine for 10 days from onset of symptoms. After 10 days, you may return to work provided your respiratory symptoms (i.e. cough, runny nose, etc.) are improving AND you are fever-free for 24 hours (without using fever reducing medications like acetaminophen or ibuprofen).
